Ally X: FPS Limit Behavior with VRR enabled? #1466
Comments
I think 2nd point is a Steam issue, Need to check with an external VRR-enabled device on Steam Deck if it allows granularity. |
Same as me with black myth wukong. |
In SteamOS main branch, VRR was broken until around 48 hours ago, and now exhibits this behavior. We're watching gamescope closely and will add fixes as they occur. For now if you want frame limiting turn off VRR or use another method like Mangohud via launch option. |
Hi, @PhantumJak. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the bazzite team manage their backlog. I'm marking this issue as stale. Issue Summary:

Thank you for your understanding and contribution! |
Not ROG Ally, I'm using a desktop PC hooked on a Samsung TV via HDMI, but I have the same problem when VRR is enabled. |
Describe the bug
Three things really...
When VRR is enabled, the FPS does not lock to the specified value. For example, if "60" is chosen, is will hover in the low to mid 60's, like 62 to 65.
When VRR is enabled, I expected that I would be allowed to set FPS limits granularly instead of perfect divisions of the refresh rate. For example, if VRR is enabled, we should be allowed to set the FPS limit to, say, 48, on a 120Hz display.
When VRR is enabled, I would get awful frame pacing issues unless I disabled FPS limit. Even setting the FPS limit to the max refresh rate did not fix this issue, I had to disabled FPS limits entirely. THIS ONLY HAPPENS SOMETIMES
What did you expect to happen?
I expected the FPS to go no-higher than the specified value, but it was constantly between 2 to 4 FPS higher (fluctuating)
When VRR support is enabled, I expected I could set granular FPS limits and let the VRR do its magic from there.
When VRR and FPS limits are enabled at the same time, I was not expecting consistently bad frame timing.
Output of
rpm-ostree status
No response
Hardware
ROG Ally X, VRAM set to 8GB
Extra information or context
I doubt the game matters, but I was testing this on Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Baldur's Gate 3
