Recovery Level Classifications at UC Davis provide a structured way to assign institutions information and IT resources based on the importance and required recovery time objectives in case of a disruption. The classifications are:

RL5: Core technology and infrastructure with a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of 15 minutes.
RL4: Critical 1 - Life/safety/alternatives not sustainable, with an RTO of up to 6 hours.
RL3: Critical 2 - Alternatives sustainable up to 24 hours, with an RTO of up to 24 hours.
RL2: Necessary, with an RTO of up to 5 days.
RL1: Deferrable, with an RTO of up to 30 days.
These levels help in planning and prioritizing IT recovery needs to maintain business continuity in case of disruptions[^doc0].
