Agenda

  • Niki meets the team, her ideas,
  • MWE-UD 2024 paper status,
  • How to go forward,
    • Splitting the issues and more focused meetings.

Discussion

  • Reviews have been useful.
    • We can easily correct the technical things.
    • The conclusion should be stronger.
  • We've discussed the reviews of the MWE-UD 2024 paper.
  • Aslı mentioned 2 linguistic universals being violated when we split:
    1. derivational morpheme occurs after an inflectional morpheme.
    2. second token is treated as something it's not.
  • It's agreed on that we should split in some way.
    • Even though Çağrı Hoca advocates for splitting after -ki, Büşra is against it.
  • Enhanced dependencies are proposed as a solution but Çağrı Hoca is against it for 2 reasons:
    1. It's not used much in the treebanks.
    2. Parsers are not ready for it.
    • But still, potentially, it's a solution.
  • Çağrı Hoca considers automatization important for the solution.
  • We will work on the final version of the paper according to the comments.
    • Furkan works on technical issues.
  • We said that we can write a paper on the copula issue to send to SIGTURK this year.
  • Nikolett Mus introduced herself. She's from Hungary and works on Uralic languages.
  • Meerim Ryspakova introduced herself. She's a PhD student working on Kyrgyz with Aida Eje.
    • Aida Eje mentioned that there's also another student not present.
  • We're ignoring some reviews such as section 4 shortening and other examples in multiple languages.

Actions

  1. Finish and submit the final version of the paper. (All)
    • Share a Google Doc for tracking the reviews of the workshop paper. People should be assigned tasks in it. (Furkan)
  2. Meet next Friday at 16:00 (UTC+3). (All)
