I read through you guide and it was a great help. While working through it I found that vue.js had a resource plugin that intergrates ajax, so I thought I'd take your project and update it using the plugin.
I also used npm to pull in a few more packages namely gulp so that I could run browserify to complile the js file.
I left some sections comminted since I thought it might be helpful as a guide.
