When pressing the "pause" button in Godot while testing the game, FMOD keeps going and this becomes especially problematic when trying to debug beat events.

That's quite ironic. You were the one who made it that way in the first place with this PR last year for the opposite reason :
#166

In a separate post, you wrote: In case the game is paused (e.g. via pause game screen) we still want FMOD to work normally.

We need to clarify what is the behaviour we need in a given situation and whether or not one or more settings should be introduced to deal with it.
