Version of Variety
0.8.12-3

Describe the bug
The AppIndicator icon is no longer present as expected in the tray in gnome.

Context
It is never visible. I have not seen the tray icon in at least a few weeks, maybe months. Of course, I have enabled the appropriate extension for AppIndicator support, and many other applications are using it as expected.

I have tried using two different gnome extensions:

Not sure if this is relevant, but I have noticed that Deluge (another python application) also has the same problem as Variety. I expect it to have a tray icon, but it does not. Perhaps there is a bug in a shared python library.

To Reproduce

  1. Start variety
  2. Click on the Customize tab
  3. ensure that "Indicator Icon" is set to "Dark" or "Light"
  4. Look for icon in the AppIndicator tray

Attach Variety's log file
variety.log

Desktop environment and version:
gnome-shell 47.2

OS name and version:
arch linux 6.12.8-zen1-1-zen
