Am I using padding right for a bar chart or is the documentation wrong?

I have the following figure where I use inner padding to increase the space between bars and I am using a value of -5 which is exactly what I need. Aka when I use negative numbers, it increases the space between bars and when I use ordinary values, it squishes the distance between bars.

However the documentation states the following:

The inner padding (spacing) within each band step of band scales, as a fraction of the step size. This value MUST lie in the range [0,1].

For point scale, this property is invalid as point scales do not have internal band widths (only step sizes between bands).

The documentation states that the value must always be between 0 and 1 so am I using padding right?
