direct pushes are allowed, but you get yelled at

following visit developer guide for releases, I made changes directly on gh-pages and pushed.

when pushing you will see:

Which made me think I was blocked from pushing (but it in fact works)

Seeing this, I then created a PR to the upstream repo on accident.
