Error messageType.decode is not a function

Hi, I have set up a contrib-protobuf decode node without any problem and was able to read the .proto file. However, whenever I send a message to decode, the decode fails with the following error "Wire format is invalid: TypeError: messageType.decode is not a function". Would greatly appreciate any help on this!
