I went to print my book and the print service I went to had several notes about the cover template that could maybe be fixed within the template in order to avoid future mistakes. Attached you can find a template for how print services expect a cover to be formatted for printing.
The blue bar at the top of the cover should be 7mm from the start of the spine. (currently when setting a bleed value the template continues this blue bar even at the side of the spine)
The markings in the corners (the ones having the circled +) should be where the machine must cut the cover. (currently when setting a bleed these marks are also moved making the size of the cover wrong)
Additionally I found out that the cover ignores setting a top and bottom bleed. The values always default back to 0mm
It would be nice if these remarks could be fixed for future PhD dissertations.

Thanks for the feedback. This is useful (it would also be useful to know which print service this was, you can also mail me directly @kuleuven).
Some quick answers already:
That the blue bar at the top reaches the spine is by design. This is the official template that we are asked by ADS to follow for the latex template. Feel free to ask the ADS whether this can be changed (I'll also add it to our list of questions).
The markings with the + and circle are indications to where there is ink (they are camera alignment lines). The crop lines are the small lines. What also might be confusing is that the left bleed need to be combined with the spine. Because this is bleed into the spine where there is no cutting (not sure why this was added). The defaults are confusing and I will change them.
Thank you for the amazing work on the template.
