I noticed that you have used item instead of items as mentioned in the external database's SPI. Perhaps, this might also be the reason for issue #7 because it seems to be called before that error occurs.

The more interesting thing is that the get function seems to be called when an item is added to the external database collection rather than the insert function. So, does Wix not really support writes yet for external databases?
