As suggested by @vaqxai, would make errors easier to resolve for the end users.

I'm not sure if returning a Result logs a backtrace, but that is a necessity for certain errors to allow for a better debug experience for developing.

One additional consideration is statics/globals, which are used for environment variables among other things.
