Maurice Nathaniel Greene was born in 1877 in Fairfax County, Virginia. He received his bachelor's from Howard University in 1901, during which time he was a member of the Asbury Methodist Epispocal Church in Washington, DC. He graduated from the Yale Divinity School in 1905 and was ordained a minister in 1906. He subsequently ministered in Selma, Alabama (1905-1906) and at Hope Church in Amherst, Massachusetts (1906-1912) before becoming the principal of the Washburn Seminary in Beaufort, North Carolina in 1912. After leaving the seminary, he was briefly a missionary in Trinity, Georgia in 1916, and then became pastor of the Zion Congregational Church in Haverhill, Massachusetts (1916-1921). He returned to Hope Church in Amherst for the end of his career (1921-1928) before retiring and settling in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Greene died in 1940.
