We love your input! We want to make contributing to this project as easy and transparent as possible, whether it's:
- Reporting a bug
- Discussing the current state of the code
- Submitting a fix
- Proposing new features
We use GitHub to host code, to track issues and feature requests, as well as accept pull requests.
We run some tools such as isort
and black
to keep our code style consistent throughout the package.
These are ran by pre-commit
, which you can set up with:
# Install pre-commit with pip
python -m pip install pre-commit
# And then run install on sisl's root directory
pre-commit install
Then, whenever you commit changes, pre-commit
will check that everything is fine. If there are some
style inconsistencies, it will modify your code accordingly. You can add those modifications and commit again.
However, don't feel intimidated by this! If you are confused with how it works, you can just submit contributions without it. Our bots will notice and we will guide you to, or help you, solve it.
Add a comment on the issue and wait for the issue to be assigned before you start working on it. This helps to avoid multiple people working on similar issues.
We Use GitHub Flow, So All Code Changes Happen Through Pull Requests
Pull requests are the best way to propose changes to the codebase (we use Git-Flow). We actively welcome your pull requests:
- Fork the repo and create your branch from
main
. Please create the branch in the format feature/- (eg: feature/176-chart-widget) - If you've added code that should be tested, add tests.
- If you've changed APIs, update the documentation.
- Ensure the test suite passes.
- Issue that pull request!
In short, when you submit code changes, your submissions are understood to be under the same MPL v2 License that covers the project.
Report bugs using GitHub's issues
We use GitHub issues to track public bugs. Report a bug by opening a new issue. It's that easy!
Great Bug Reports tend to have:
- A quick summary and/or background
- Steps to reproduce
- Be specific!
- Give sample code if you can.
- What you expected would happen
- What actually happens
- Notes (possibly including why you think this might be happening, or stuff you tried that didn't work)
By contributing, you agree that your contributions will be licensed under its MPL v2 License.
