Apologies if this is the wrong label to use. I'd like to know how much ETH/sepoliaETH I should expect to need on the faucet account for deploying a rollup on the testnet/mainnet.

Hi @zaguezzar , can you clarify what you mean by the faucet account? I'm unsure which deployment docs you're looking at, but I can ask around to see if there's something I'm missing.

Hey @MexicanAce, thanks for your answer. To init and run a rollup I believe I need an account with enough ETH to feed a few accounts (deployer, operator, governor etc.) for the smart contract deployments, isn't that the case? If so, I'd like to know the amount needed for each of these accounts.

I think it would depend on the type of Rollup you want to run (ex: Is it a Validium?). One way to get an idea for the cost is to run the rollup locally by following the Getting started with ZK Stack guide.

As @MexicanAce mentioned, it hard to estimate as also gas on testnet fluctuates a lot but, on Sepolia, to create you own ecosystem on L1 and then deploy your own ZK chain and deploy and fund all the system contracts etc.. 5ETH will be enough for sure. Hope that helps 🤙

I've successfully followed the guide and granted each wallet 5.2 sepoliaETH, and managed to run the rollup chain after creating and initializing the ecosystem. However when I take a look at the wallets, I see that not much sepoliaETH was used:

Total ETH Consumed:

0.22949198 + 0.00207747 + 0.19874398 = 0.43031343 ETH

Observations:

• We're being asked for 5 sepoliaETH per wallet but only 0.43 was used in total.
• The main accounts used are the deployer, blob operator and governor.

Questions:

• Why do we need 5 sepoliaETH per wallet for a total of 30, if hardly 1 ETH of gas fees was used?
• Should we expect the same amounts and behavior during a mainnet deployment?

This is a fantastic post, and really appreciate the time spent here.

You are absolutely right that the required amount of 5 ETH is a bit excessive. Let me talk with the platform team on reducing that amount so its less of a barrier for devs testing zkstack-cli out. The 5 ETH amount was initially in place just to always ensure enough ETH is funded but its too high in my opinion as well!

@zaguezzar I see you've unanswered this post, the responses provided are accurate. Gas prices fluctuate so its not as if we can provide an exact number, however if using zkstack-cli the required amount for accounts to deploy the necessary contracts is 5 ETH. Important to note there are multiple accounts during deployment (e.g. deployer, governor etc), these expect to be properly funded as well.

I suggest deploying locally first, then testnet, then mainnet. You will get a very close approximation.
