Hey @zpydr

Love your extension! Thank you so much for your work. :-)

I am visual person and like arranging my window icons in the top panel so I know which window is which.

Would it be possible to support a drag and drop to rearrange the position of the window icons in the top panel?

Thank you!

@lsatenstein can you please briefly explain what this will do before I am importing your settings? Will this allow me to drag and drop icons?

TaskBar is not going to be changed because you want it be changed.

I am not asking for change but wanted to open the conversation.

What I presented is how I use TaskBar.

Posting a configuration file without further explanation makes it hard to understand your use.

No changes to TaskBar, the Author does not intend to make them

How do you know?

My recommendation. Fork the software and do the changes yourself, and make them available to the Gnome community,.

Let's not get into an ideological debate here. @zpydr is free to comment without you or me telling him what to do or not.

oh wow. @orschiro Thank you. The drag & drop feature is quite complex to implement and I have been working on this for some time already. It is the next big task on my list...

Feedback.

With Gnome 3.26, 4 times out of 5 TaskBar is sociable with Gnome-shell. The fifth time, Gnome-shell goes into a tight loop. Either reboot, or from root killall -u username. It's not TB's fault, but the shell.

If you are going to make a drag and drop feature, then presumeably you are going to dispense with the favourites (dash in ubuntu's jargon) bar. Reminder, when an item is dragged to the favourites bar, it also gets automatically added to TaskBar's display.

And some extra info

I have been testing TB with Fedora 28 Beta and with SUSE's Tumbleweed both on 3.28 Gnome, and so far TB has a clean bill of health.
Given the problems posted with gnome-shell (memory leaks, and lockups), and because TB really works many functions of the Desktop API, changes here would have to be very very well tested. Changes hopefully, would have to work with 3.26, 3.28 and the forthcoming 3.30.
