I recently upload a gameplay video to Bilibili, check out this link if you're interested in our project.

[自制游戏]我的第一款在硬件上做的Fate游戏

Introduction

home

In the final project, we create a first person 2.5D RPG game “Avalon” by using the DE2-115 board. All the hardware circuit are combined to load the image into the OCM and determine which color of each pixel should be shown on the monitor. The SOC code will do all the game logic, like the key control of the character “Saber” to let her move, attack, block, and use the skill. In addition, SOC will also determine whether each pattern exists on the screen and which frame should be shown on the screen. The data will transfer from SOC to hardware with our own IP core, which allows a totally 64 32-bits register file to be modified by C code and received by hardware.
  • key control
    • WSAD: moving
    • J: normal attack
    • K: Excalibur
    • L: Block, and can also interrupt the attack animation
    • ENTER: start the game
    • ESC: Restart the game
    • BACKSPACE: Restart the game and set the game to developer mode, which will decrease the game difficulty by allowing more skill times to use for the player.

attack

Excalibur

We modified the key control part so that our game can deal with 4 key presses simultaneously.(even though you may just need 3)
  • How to win
    • There are 5 rounds of fighting in Avalon. If saber kills all the monsters, you win the game.
    • If saber loses all health or let any monsters cross the bridge, you lose the game.

gameover

  • Monsters
    • All the monsters will appear at the right most of the bridge and walk left.
    • When they touch saber, they will give damage to saber and push saber back
    • As the number of rounds increases, the monster moves faster and has more health
    • Their attack actions are determined by a random number (attack probability), when they are attacking, they cannot be attacked by saber

How to run

  • Pull all the codes in your computer and compile them in the Quartus, connect your computer to DE2-115 developer board.
  • Press "Programmer" - "Start" in Quartus to transfer hardware data to DE2-115.
  • Connect your DE2-115 with keyboard and VGA
  • Compile the C code in eclipse and run the code
  • Then you will see the home of the game on the screen
