I applied 0755 recursively hopefully this will fix the permission issues

Good. Now it complains about libxkbcommon-x11.so.0 being missing. Which tool did you use to produce the AppImage?

I used the continuous build of appimagetool.

Well, appimagetool can only convert a working AppDir into an AppImage. You need some deployment tool to make sure that all needed libraries and dependencies get deployed into your AppDir.
