I'm curious, why Waterfox? Out of the two, Waterfox was sold to System1, an advertising company, in 2019 (which yes, they're independent again, but it's the broken moral of selling themselves, a "privacy" browser, to System1). And, numerous sites (the one that's made the most noise about this is Weasyl) officially deprecated Waterfox in 2021.

Whereas, Librefox has had neither of these issues.

Librewolf has issues with some websites. Thats why we changed to Waterfox.

Perhaps remove Brave and add Thorium as a main option? It's more based.

Nevermind...

Waterfox also has issues with some sites, depending on what flags have been modified compared to your standard Firefox installation. That'll be why more sites don't work with Librefox; because there's more flags that have been altered to block tracking content (namely WebGL)

At the end of the day, both have the goal of being a "privacy" browser, but one does it better than the other. Using a privacy browser will inevitably require modification if you want specific sites to work (or if you want more protection). And, when it comes to that, Librefox simply does it better.

Perhaps remove Brave and add Thorium as a main option? It's more based.

Not to mention Brave's couple of controversies in 2020 and 2023, when they had their affiliate links inserted and when they were accused of selling user data to train AI models without permission.

Debates over browsers aren't productive and have already been done internally. People don't realistically reach an agreement.

We chose Waterfox over Librewolf in the 3 options in the AME Wizard features as it's more suitable for most users. Lots of users would try out Librewolf and then get confused when the privacy protections cause websites to be slow and rendered in 24fps.

You always have the option to keep Edge or install no browser and then get your own later via the Install Software.ps1 script included or another source. The script includes Librewolf.

Waterfox was chosen over Firefox as:

  1. It's more customisable
  2. It doesn't have telemetry by default (as well as a pretty much perfect privacy policy)
  3. It doesn't have some of Firefox's 'bloat' features by default like Pocket
  4. It retains the same compatibility with websites as default Firefox

Throium

Thorium retains many of Google's services, is completely unaudited with the project's safety in the hands of one person, has no built in ad-blocking and also doesn't have any fingerprinting protections. Brave is the opposite of that, and although they've been involved in controversies previously, the end result for the user is a private and secure browser.

I'd say that thorium is not suitable for integration into Atlas OS

Thank you for mentioning this. I'm curious if the Thorium team added this or if this was done by the person who made the theme that Thorium uses. It seems to be loading from the theme.

It's very much intentional, if you refer to Alex313031/thorium#147
You can see the developer talking about adding it and waiting until someone notices

It is kind of funny but, yeah.. if you're intending this to be a public released software, you do not probably want any legal-related action on your hands from parents. :S

Depends on the country. In the US, parents finding their kids have used software that included access to such content could make grounds for a legal case.

Obscenity Law and Minors

Federal law strictly prohibits the distribution of obscene matter to minors. Any transfer or attempt to transfer such material to a minor under the age of 16, including over the Internet, is punishable under federal law.

It is my understanding that Thorium is not software exclusive to adults... however unlikely a kid would be to find it.

This isn't a conversation that should be had, if you wish to make complaints about the software please do it within the area that the software resides. Thanks

There are so many other more likely reasons your card was blocked mate. Thorium is open source.

  1. Being on public internet (password or not does not matter) and having your connection sniffed.
  2. Malware or extension on your machine that caught you typing it in. (Are you using a trust worthy adblock?)
  3. Phishing scam or untrustworthy store.
  4. Your card got swiped 6 months ago and someone is just now conveniently running the numbers.
  5. You bought something on a foreign website, to which most banks would block the card not for fraud but because it is unrecognized. They will often block to verify it is you making the one purchase. Did you check if there was just one charge?

I should mention that credit card pulls often don't hit immediately, or the hacker would be found more easily.

Going to reiterate that this is not a place to be complaining about thorium. But I wanted to stop you before you spread misinformation without concrete evidence.

I may question thorium on certain development choices but I don't think fraud is one of them, or they would easily fall under legal trouble. (Open source)

this is most likely some immature person trying to stir up controversy, go and complain on their repo if you think it's really that

Let's not jump to conclusions here, for both of you. The guy may have actually had his card stolen but not through Thorium which is where he bought the stuff on, I doubt it would be Thorium that leaked that stuff. Let's not call people rude things, this is supposed to be a kind place.
