Purpose

This first release of a set of definitions particularly appropriate for electron diffraction was developed by the standards subcommittee of the NanED project (https://naned.eu) with input from the IUCr Commission on Electron Crystallography and wider community consultation through a Discord discussion group, and technical guidance from Brian McMahon (@nautolycus) and members of COMCIFS.

Definitions in this version 1.0.0 release were submitted for incorporation into the core CIF dictionary, so that this cif_ed.dic file need not be invoked directly when future releases of the core dictionary are available. (At the time of writing the current core dictionary version available from the IUCr website is version 3.2.0 of 30 May 2023, which does not contain these definitions.)
