Our mission/aims

Open Book Collective is a platform for librarians, educational institutions and other users to find Open Access academic monographs. We offer:

· integrated metadata on OA books currently available

· a user-friendly searchable catalogue to simplify and streamline the process of finding and accessing OA books simplify and streamline the process of finding and accessing OA books

· space for leading OA publishers to display their current and forthcoming books and connect with institutions and librarians

Our mission is to build and maintain an infrastructureinfratructure to support the publication, discovery and distribution of OA monographs via a range of flexible subscription packages, and make it easy for OA monographs to be delivered to libraries.

Our values

Out key values are openess, transparency, accountability to OA stakeholders, and commonality. We believe that academic research should be accessible to as wide a range of readers as possible. We believe in 'scaling small': i.e., supporting small and medium OA publishers to operate through a diverse range of business models, and in networking, diversification and mutual support over centralization and hierarchization. We don't believe there is a single 'right way' to do OA publishing, though we also do not believe it should be a 'poor relation' of paid content that offers less value to end users. We are are always willing to discuss models and options to discuss integrating the Collective with publishers' existing workflows.

Our governance

The Open Book Collective membership platform is governed by a board committee. The initial board commitee members are part of the collective research project that created the platform. The members are: [Names, positions, roles, email]. The governing committee is responsible for the design and maintenance of the platform charter [this should be a link] and code of conduct [link] and any issues that come up regarding the running of the site. Decisions are taken by vote at a biannual meeting, which require a quora of 75% attendance to be binding. You can contact the governing body at [general email] or the individual emails given above. We are committed to transparency in goverance, and aim to make board membership available to a diverse range of stakeholders. Therefore, Wwhen you/your institution have been subscribed to the platform for a minimum of 1 academic year, you become eligible to stand for election to the board. You can learn more about the election process here [link: personally I would say elections should be annual and all subscribers have 1 vote. Candidates write a manifesto which appears on the platform].
