git-stash-deez

Learning the wonders and intricacies of git and GitHub through a cheesy example repo.

Every repo should have a README.md file that should explain how to set up the environment, what the code does, and anything else that the developer wants to share!

Git Commands

git init

creates a new repository

git push

pushes the local commits to the remote repository

git pull

pulls the latest changes of your branch from the remote repository and attempts to merge those changes into your branch

git add

adds specified files towards the next commit

git commit

stores changes chosen by add to a commit, ready to be pushed to the remote repository

git stash [pop | list | show]

stores uncommitted changes in a temporary location, ready to be popped back into your working copy

• pop: merges the most recent stash into your working copy
• list: shows all stashes, you can stash multiple times and pop or show individual stashes by specifying the index
• show: shows the files that were changed in the stash

git checkout

Changes the branch your working copy is on.

git branch

Can create, rename, list, or delete branches, however does not change the branch you are currently on.

git clone

Copies and creates the coding environment of a remote repo

git merge <branch name>

Merges the changes of the specified branch into your currently opened branch.

git revert

safely deletes a commit in the history and creates a new revert commit, handy if you want to remove a feature that was added with a feature branch

git fetch

Downloads all the commits and branches on the remote repository to your local copy

git log

Shows the commit history on the current branch, and -p to see the actual changes on each commit.

git status

Shows what files have been modified or created, which files are staged for the next commit
