[AVAILABLE ON STEAM, NO MORE UPDATES HERE] Deployment Ready! (OneShot macOS v1.0.2)
THE MACOS PORT IS NOW AVAILABLE DIRECTLY THROUGH STEAM. NO FUTURE UPDATES WILL BE PUBLISHED TO THIS RELEASES PAGE. SIMPLY PURCHASE AND DOWNLOAD THE GAME ON STEAM.
Mark from Degica got back to me and tested out the macOS port to make sure everything was working. There was a lot of patching of the actual map files involved in fixing the last few bugs. I've taken great extents to make sure that the changes are still compatible with the Windows version. And with that, the only remaining known issues are with the upcoming Linux version, which means that we are ready for the official Steam release!
Please report any issues that you encounter and, if possible, provide screenshots, so I can fix them as soon as possible. 😄
Minimum System Requirements
- macOS Sierra (10.12) and above
- 4 GB RAM
- OpenGL 2.1 compatible
Installation
This build intentionally omits essential game files such as the maps, dialogue, graphics, audio, etc. and a copy purchased via Steam is needed to play.
1. Download OneShot Through Steam
- Download SteamCMD from https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd_osx.tar.gz and extract.
- Open the Terminal and drag the 'steamcmd.sh' command from within to the new command prompt and press Enter. Steam may need to update.
- The line
Steam>
will appear in the Terminal window, typelogin <your_username>
and press Enter. If you are asked to enter password / Steam Guard code, enter them. (I recommend you login through the GUI and choose "Remember me", I've heard about issues with authentication through the command line interface.) - After login, type
@sSteamCmdForcePlatformType windows
and press Enter. - Type
app_update 420530 validate
and press Enter. OneShot's game data will be installed in
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/OneShot
. - Once it has finished, you can close the terminal and proceed
2. Run the macOS Installer
- Extract the archive you downloaded from this page. This should contain the two game apps, three folders (
Data
,Graphics
, andWallpaper
), andinstall.command
. - Double-click
install.command
. The files will be copied to Steam's OneShot directory, and a link will be made into the user's Applications folder just like a regular Steam game. - After the installation, the OneShot directory will be opened. You can play OneShot by double-clicking
OneShot
or launching it from the Launchpad/Spotlight. (The install script makes a shortcut in your user Applications folder.)
Troubleshooting
cannot open install.command
file or OneShot.app
(unidentified developer)
Right-click the file and select 'Open', and then click 'Open' again. Since the apps are unsigned, macOS treats them as potential threats, though I promise they are not! This is only an issue until the official Steam release is published.
The game immediately quits after launching it
Most likely, you forgot to launch Steam. SyngleChance is designed to run outside of Steam as well, and as such does not launch it for you. You must also be logged into an account with OneShot in its library. Still not working? File a bug report.
An error Unable to open 'Data/xScripts.rxdata'
occurs
Move _______.app
and OneShot.app
to somewhere outside the OneShot directory, open and quit them, then move them again to OneShot directory. (Apparently this actually works as some users have confirmed, which is weird...)
Something happened and I need to delete my save files to fix it!
Unlike the real world, there is, in fact, a time machine for this one. If something catastrophic happens and you need to restart your world, you can delete the save.dat
file located in ~/Library/Application Support/Oneshot
, or on Linux, ~/.local/share/Oneshot
.
The clover (journal) app isn't connecting to the main one
I've taken extra precautions to make sure that these issues don't happen. But sometimes, they do. In case the second app won't update the graphics for one reason or another, try deleting the file located in /var/oneshot-pipe
...and file a bug report.
I have a "ghost" window that won't go away until I quit the game, and it's annoying me!
Heh, believe me, this issue has annoyed me much more. It's an issue when you're playing in fullscreen, but then taken out because of a popup dialogue. Just play in windowed mode, as recommended anyways.
The Official Steam Release-To-Be! (macOS OneShot v1.0.0)
THIS IS REALLY IT! macOS OneShot, after tons of development, is FINALLY FINISHED! Go ahead, download this right now...or wait for it to appear on Steam, better yet! Thank you all for your support, especially @popkirby, @pokedart9001, @KockaAdmiralac, Degica Co. Ltd., and the OneShot team themselves. I couldn't have done it without any of you. 💜
Please report any issues that you encounter and, if possible, provide screenshots, so I can fix them as soon as possible. 😄

Compatibility Fixes (macOS OneShot v0.8.1)
This release fixes known compatibility issues with Mac minis, as well as an embarrassing issue with the journal application towards the end of the game.
System Requirements
- macOS Sierra (10.12) and above
- (More to be determined...)
Known Issues
- Fullscreen mode isn't recognized properly by the game. More info can be found in issue #13.
- Resizing the window towards the very end of the game is known to have a slight graphical bug. We recommend you play in windowed mode at the original resolution. More info can be found in issue #23.
- The macOS implementation of the journal app has a bit of a startup latency to it. More info can be found in issue #27.
Please report any issues that you encounter and, if possible, provide screenshots, so I can fix them as soon as possible. 😄

The Refuge Puzzle Fixed (macOS OneShot v0.7.1)
The puzzle within The Refuge is now functioning properly! Turns out that the function was disabled due to some bugs on macOS, although it doesn't seem to be an issue now. As far as we now know, the game is fully playable!
Known Issues
- Some letters don't render randomly. More info can be found in issue #10.

Refurbished Journal (macOS OneShot v0.7.0)
The journal has been fixed, and is now able to communicate with the game! Along with this, new updates from MKXP have been pulled to help fix bugs in the core engine and save time trying to hunt them down and squash them. Graphics that contain Windows paths have also been included to patch the data.

macOS OneShot v0.5.1
@popkirby was a big help in making this release a reality, not only helping fix translations, but also providing a nice little install script. This version pulls the most recent changes from upstream (namely the Chroma API, which is Windows-only, translation updates, and a few other minor updates).
Known Issues
- All non-English languages seem to not be loading properly. While the interface around the game and the graphics change languages, the in-game text (menus, character dialogue, etc.) does not. This is because OneShot has been compiled with a version of the scripts that disables translations due to a crash on runtime with the new script. See issue #4 for more details.
Please report any issues that you encounter and, if possible, provide screenshots, so I can fix them as soon as possible. 😄
- After login, type
@sSteamCmdForcePlatformType windows
and press Enter. - Type
app_update 420530 validate
and press Enter. OneShot's game data will be installed in
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/OneShot
.
2. Run the macOS Installer
- Extract the archive you downloaded from this page. This should contain the two game apps, an .xScripts file, and
install.command
. - Double-click
install.command
. The files will be copied to Steam's OneShot directory, and a link will be made into the user's Applications folder just like a regular Steam game. - After the installation, The OneShot directory will be opened. You can play OneShot by double-clicking
OneShot
or launching it from the Launchpad.
Troubleshooting
cannot open install.command
file or OneShot.app
(unidentified developer)
Right-click the file and select 'Open', and then click 'Open' again. Since the apps are unsigned, macOS treats them as potential threats, though I promise they are not!
An error Unable to open 'Data/xScripts.rxdata'
occurs
Move _______.app
and OneShot.app
to somewhere outside the OneShot directory, open and quit them, then move them again to OneShot directory.
