• Completion: 13%
• Work to improve OAI-PMH harvesting and Dataverse metadata and packaging support proceeded this quarter. Key harvesting issues were identified and scheduled for Year 3 and Year 4, and a number of harvesting issues were closed. Dataverse support for RO-Crate metadata detection was also added during the quarter.

• Completion: 23.6%
• The team continued to make progress on addressing known OAI-PMH harvesting issues.
• Our investigation of how Dataverse stakeholders and users collect and use funder metadata was completed. In addition, several discussions progressed about development work to extend the list of languages and improve the metadata included in Dublin Core metadata available when harvesting using OAI-PMH. Feedback was also sought from the Dataverse community about importing and exporting metadata using the DCAT and MARC-XML metadata standards.

• Completeness: 29%
• Work during Q3 for this objective centered on two activities: developing a preferred approach to cross-repository search and improving OAI-PMH harvesting.
  • Cross-Repository Search. Julian participated in a GREI Task Group to define cross-repository search goals and benefits. The group plans to invite the NLM Data Catalog creators to contribute cross-repository search use cases and lessons learned. Outreach to DataCite and NLM's beta catalog is planned to collect additional use cases.
  • Improving OAI-PMH Harvesting. During Q3, six known problems in the Dataverse harvesting code were fixed. In addition, the Dataverse team implemented a new harvesting mechanism that retrieves metadata from DataCite's OAI-PMH API. This new approach enables Harvard Dataverse and other Dataverse repositories to harvest metadata from other repositories that use DataCite DOIs, but that do not offer their own OAI-PMH feeds. This means that more dataset metadata can be harvested and shared than was previously possible. Harvard Dataverse has three projects with immediate needs for this new service.
