A ratio greater than 1.0 denotes a possible regression (marked with ❌), while a ratio less
than 1.0 denotes a possible improvement (marked with ✅). Only significant results - results
that indicate possible regressions or improvements - are shown below (thus, an empty table means that all
benchmark results remained invariant between builds).

Results

Below is a table of this job's results, obtained by running the benchmarks.
The values listed in the ID column have the structure [parent_group, child_group, ..., key], and can be used to
index into the BaseBenchmarks suite to retrieve the corresponding benchmarks.
The percentages accompanying time and memory values in the below table are noise tolerances. The "true"
time/memory value for a given benchmark is expected to fall within this percentage of the reported value.
An empty cell means that the value was zero.

Should we make the axis that we get here a subtype of Ti?

I agree we should not do this, since it would only work with eval anyway.

We could use the @dim macro from DimensionalData to define this subtyping and as far as I can see this is not using eval for that.

The point of making it a subtype is, that in the analysis packages we can use Ti to select a time series no matter what the time axis is named in a dataset.

Looks good to me. One last question: Do we already have a changelog or something similar and should we create one? Would be good to have a place where we can inform about breaking changes and new features.

the Documenter job is failing mainly by groupby. I might need @rafaqz help for this 😢 .

update groupby(, Ti =>... ) to groupby(, time=>...).

no, but, we should add one.

I'm seeing just the missing variables, where is the groupby?

Results

A ratio greater than 1.0 denotes a possible regression (marked with ❌), while a ratio less
than 1.0 denotes a possible improvement (marked with ✅). Only significant results - results
that indicate possible regressions or improvements - are shown below (thus, an empty table means that all
benchmark results remained invariant between builds).

An empty cell means that the value was zero.

well, all good now. But I did,

Dim{:time}

which it will not be so nice to be typing later on. Should we define and export new dimensions by default in YAXArrays? and how? and for what dimensions @meggart ?

  • Dim{:lon}
  • Dim{:long}
  • Dim{:longitude}
  • Dim{:lat}
  • Dim{:latitude}
  • Dim{:time}
  • Dim{:Time}

will this clash somehow? @rafaqz not so sure about adding or if its better to simple document how to use it, but then again, it doesn't look that convenient.

Using a lot of climate simulations over the last 2 decades, here's the main dimensions names I stumbled upon in NetCDF/Zarr files.

rlon, rlat # rotated grid, mostly used on Regional Weather/Climate Simulations. Those files almost always has a `grid_mapping` or `grid_mapping_name` variable that should be available for further processing.
longitude, latitude
x, y
xc, yc
lat_c, lon_c
time, date
height, depth
pressure, pressure_level

also, with respect to time and Time: "Case is significant in netCDF names, but it is recommended that names should not be distinguished purely by case, i.e., if case is disregarded, no two names should be the same. It is also recommended that names should be obviously meaningful, if possible, as this renders the file more effectively self-describing."
