This milestone comprises a set of issues required to improve the pumping energy calculations of the Jordan model. The enhancements, however, will also add improvements to the nexus_tool
, which could be used in the Moroccan case as well.
Some general notes about the enhancements cover in this milestone are:
- Use historical energy consumption (or intensity) to calibrate/validate the model.
- Include capacity characteristics to the pipelines, thus if more water is being pumped it needs to install or upgrade the pipeline.
- Add average capacity in irrigated land to wells, thus we can get the average number of wells per region based on the irrigated land. Then we could add standard pipeline characteristics to each well and distribute equally the extracted water. For this also crosscheck that the number of wells we are getting is not off from the statistics (1738).
- Add pumping efficiency characteristics to the Disi and RedDead pipelines (around 80%), and leave the others with the average efficiency of 50%.
- Account for irrigation technology to calculate energy consumption (irrigation pressure).
