Now, as we all know. <code>さくらがはしる</code> is rather unnatural Japanese, just as it's rather unnatural English. We say <code>Sakura is running</code> in English, and in Japanese we say <code>さくらがはしっている</code>. So if we want to put all that in the past, what do we do? Well, all we have to do is put that <code>いる</code> into the past.
