About The Pull Request

Replaces the science fabricator board from deep storage with a ancient protolathe board.

Why It's Good For The Game

This machine is constantly being used to build machines that can make AIs/Cyborgs, teleporters, and RnD consoles, which are then used to remotely mess with the station with things like bombs, zombies, and (effectively) malf AIs. This can all be stopped by simply getting rid of the machine that allows them to mass print all of this, which is the science fabricator.

Changelog

🆑
balance: Due to budget cuts, the syndicate deep storage has had their science fabricator board replaced with an ancient protolathe board.

Alright, turns out the issue was they had a normal science fabricator board. I replaced it with a protolathe board, and gave the circuit imprinter back to the depot.

I personally am against this since these doomsday scenarios are rather rare.

-“Malf AI” Just an admin issue really, plus it can easily be fixed once someone gets around to making it so AIs off station z level can only access cams on their z level which ahs been an issue for ages.

-“Zombies” which require the stars to align to do
You have to A have deepstorage spawn, B have it spawn with alien tech instead of experi tool (50% chance), and C get the needed materials to make a borg and rnd console, D. Research the tech, E somehow get the zombies to station (usually by mining BS crystals (which are comically rare in it of themselves in space) for tele or manuel delivery). By the time all of that happens rounds almost ended anyways.

-Bombs, (They cant be made by deepstorage period but idk about depot, plus such lame bomb behavior is likely to be adminboinked into submission anyways)

In short its not worth stemming the creativity of ghostrole players to effect the round because of some rare (very late into the round anyways) doomsday scenarios that most of the time just end with players having a fun round finale.

Apparently deep storage has somehow found a way to link their stuff to the on-station ore silo, so any kind of mat problems are non-existent. Even then, they can print BS crystals by simply getting plasma/diamonds and making more. Not to mention, the base itself doesn't need to have the alien tech, they can also wait till the station gets it. They also aren't allowed to manually deliver it, which is why they keep making quantom pads and teleporters.

You also talk like this only happens once every hundred rounds, but this has gotten to the point of being rather frequent.

To link to the on station ore silo you would have to get a multitool attached to it meaning you would have to go to station, ive never seen that even once. A lot of mats can be scavenged from the drone station though so that might be what your seeing. Secondly alien tech in it of itself has a decent chance of not spawning at all, or the station not getting the specific tech needed for zombies. So you would have to have both alien tech AND deepstorage to spawn, have people research the right tech, and scavenge the requisite mats from nearby asteroids/ruins, all the while fending off any bloodthirsty explorers coming for your loot (they can find you on GPS). Like ive seen explorers slaughter all the scientists 4 times and just detonate the base entirely once.

Also how much is rather frequent? Ive only seen it happen once (by my hand after an entire round of grinding) and saw it talked about 1 other time. Outside of the 2 times it happened today, where did you see it?

Personally I've seen it twice today, and a few days ago there was an off-station AI messing with devices. Though I haven't been keeping an eye on deep storage every round till I've started noticing this pattern.

Twice in one day (due to blue moon alignment) and once a few days ago does not constitute frequently, maybe save this for if it becomes a several times a day issue. IE once in a while is fun, several times a day becomes less so. As someone who has been making zombies as a ghostrole since the days of highpop yogstation, it takes a lot of stars to align for this stuff to happen so the twice in a row today was likely just bad luck for the crew.

I could perhaps just try to give them one that specifically can't construct AIs/borgs/etc?

That sounds like the better solution yeah, keeps the silly science things while no ai screwiness happens

I thought the ancient protolathe already had those limited? With that said, there does need to be a more limited circuit imprinter for the outpost, caue they can still make AI/cyborgs and teleporters there.

Also having only the protolathe makes them only able to print parts and some tools, locking them from nanites, cloning, and basically anything that requires a machine. This limits them a comical amount

every time i’ve seen deep storage the same people spawn on it and make zombies, a few other regular observers have made such observations as well
