Additionally, add the test/simple branch with

git checkout --orphan test/simple
git rm -rf .
for i in `seq 0 4`; do
    git commit --allow-empty -m "test/simple: $i"
done

Note that you need to use the TestWriter, because the libtest's output
capturing only works with the stdlib's print! family of macros.
As near as I can tell, it's not possible to use git2 to create an
in-memory repository. From the API it sure _looks_ like you can, but it
results in runtime errors.
The integration tests utilize test branches from within this repo.
