This is it: KEP's final form. 8 months after the first release and just about 2 years in development, this should the Kanto Expansion Pak's last update. As always, make sure to save the game in an indoor map (I would recommend your house or a Pokemon Center) to ensure your save loads smoothly. 1.1 to 1.2 seems to work, though I have yet to test 1.0 saves.

To use, simply apply the given patch to a clean copy of Pokemon Red. The SHA1 should be ea9bcae617fdf159b045185467ae58b2e4a48b9a, which matches a retail copy or one built from pret/pokered. Alternatively, you can straight-up build KEP from source.

The given patch works with apps like LunarIPS and (I think) xdelta.

The new additions since 1.2 are as follows:

  • Two new music tracks: a demake of the Galarian Bird theme (by the very talented LuciShrimp), and a slightly pitched-down Gym Leader theme used for Elite Four matches.
  • After earning all 8 badges, the trainers in Celadon University get a decent level increase, allowing for a much better grinding spot between Victory Road and the Pokemon League.
  • Added the Pocket Lapras, a version of the infamous unused Surfboard item. Obtained from an NPC on Cinnabar Island, it's meant to prevent softlocking. Sorry Pikasprey.
  • A handful of changes/improvements to move animations. (credit to wrulfy and Carmine Red)
  • Gives the player the option to use another Repel after the last one runs out. (credit to Vortiene and PureRGB)
  • A bunch of additions from Yellow Legacy, namely Bag and PC item quick sorting, an EXP bar in battle, and a MUCH bigger bag!
  • The title screen may now randomly display Green or Sandy Shocks instead of the regular Red and Scream Tail.
  • When playing as Green, the Pokedex diploma will display her instead of Red.
  • Gave a few Pokemon some tradeback moves they were supposed to have but didn't.
  • Changes the tileset of Rocket Hideout, Silph Co. and Cinnabar Mansion to be much easier on the eyes, especially when holding the run button.
  • Blue's room in the Indigo Plateau looks cooler now.
  • Improved Wiglett's and Meltan's back sprites.
  • Various text fixes.
  • Small buffs to certain late/post game boss trainers.
  • Minor encounter table changes.
  • Improvements to fishing encounter tables.
  • Increased the level of the Salesman's Cubone gift from 17 to 23.
  • Decreased the levels of the Fossil gifts from 44 to 35.
  • Fixed an issue where Steel didn't resist Rock. Trust me, it was supposed to.
  • Cinnabar Volcano is, once again, softlock-proof. I'd give it about 2 days before someone somehow finds another way to get stuck here.
  • Fixed a bug where the Hitmon gift could not be collected without speaking to Koichi twice.
  • Fixed a graphical glitch that happened when trying to name gift Pokemon.
  • Fixed a bug where, occasionally, static encounters would stay on the overworld after being defeated/caught.
  • Fixed some small issues pertaining to the Vermilion City Beauty sidequest.
  • Fixed issues where receiving a Gym badge wouldn't play the correct sound in most situations.
  • Decreased Draining Kiss's PP by 5 to remain consistent with the main series.
  • Fixed a glitchy event regarding Oak's PC in his lab.

To everyone, thanks for playing! - MM
