Looking forward to my first RestFest, I've developed a few integration applications with REST to date. I'm embarking on adding REST interfaces to a large legacy application (legacy IoT if you can believe such a thing exists!).

Security and Identity in API?

Co-operating across APIs requires we have some sort of manageable and shareable identity. I'm curious to learn what the room thinks about where we are with regard to this, and the good, the bad, the ugly with what's been tried already.

How do you recognize that you're locked into a bias trap? When your automatic, subconscious brain has stampeded you into the easiest, default decision. And how can you respond once you recognize that?

6 common phrases that correlate to the state of cognitive bias:

  • “It’s Obvious”
  • “I recently heard …”
  • “Makes Sense to me”
  • “Everyone Agrees”
  • “Stick to what we know”
  • “It’s the only option”

The state of Cognitive Closure is when we discount or ignore conflicting facts in order to get the rush of simply making a decision or feeling successful. ( 9 is experimental error, All odd numbers are prime)

So in order to combat these, consider adding structured practices to help the deliberate, rider gets activated to review decsions

  • Engineer Dissent
  • Conduct A Pre-Mortem
  • Freshest Eyes First
  • Build an Issue Tree
  • Change your Perspective (change seating, lighting, take a walk)
