When casting either Handy Gambit or Handoff in survival the pattern will execute but stop the hex immediately afterwards. This is what I have managed to figure out so far:

  • Only occurs in survival and adventure mode
  • Occurs regardless of enlightenment
  • Never consumes any media or health
  • Occurs regardless of the amount of available (no media, a stack of amethyst shards and a media cube were tested)
  • Displays “That Hex needed more media than I had… I should double-check my math.” in chat if a coping saw is in the hotbar or the player has not unlocked bloodcasting
  • Is not caught by Athena’s Gambit
  • Happens when cast in casting items

Tested on Hexxytest++ by multiple people and in single player on the Hexxytest++ pack. I tested it on a minimal quilt pack including only Hex Gloop and its dependencies and it occurred on every version since the patterns were introduced. I also quickly tested it on forge and fabric on the latest version and the issue persisted.

When testing different versions I added a pattern list to the stack including two handoff patterns and used Hermes’ Gambit. In creative this swapped and swapped back but in survival it would only swap once.

No idea how this has not been reported yet. The error appears to occur every time the conditions are met and the hotbar patterns are super useful.
