Pathfinder And ATS Protected Grid #1666

Description

This is ostensibly to prevent Salvage from moving the refinery and an ammo techfab to the Pathfinder so they can no longer hoard materials from the station, or engage in the toxic playstyle of "Let's revamp the shuttle and never contribute to the round". If you want to do that, go play Frontier.

  • fix: Fixed salvage being able to fuck off into space by building everything they need to play 3-man Frontier mode on the Pathfinder. The roundstart Pathfinder and ATS are now Protected Grids.

It's exacty the same system that protects you from bombing the arrivals shuttle, or rendering it inaccessible.

I disagree with making the entire Pathfinder a protected grid, because in most cases this is entirely preventable admin-wise and mostly a server issue more than anything. The ATS, I absolutely agree with, but this also means you can't do certain things you could before. Have you checked that the sell console is still able to be used?

Being able to modify the pathfinder is not inherently the reason people never come back to station.

I swear to god, it's an admin issue because there's a fundamental hole in game design actively encouraging salvage to do this. Although I have not tested if the ATS sell console still works if the ATS is a protected grid.

I highly disagree with the mindset of "punish the many for the actions of a few."
There's a few different changes you could make in order to force salvage back home.

This also prevents people from anchoring things no? You would be forcing salvage to go back every... 10-20 minutes or so for air, which is not even close to enough time for a genuine exped. This has a LOT of flaws, for the pathfinder specifically.

It'd be a stopgap for several other key changes to "Do more encouragement of them to come back to the station", such as

  • Replacing all food spawns on the salvage wrecks with rotten food
  • Doing the same with Expeditions
  • Refactoring MoodSystem so that significantly more things like good food obtainable from the chef give long lasting mood buffs. And/or make mood a more meaningful system.

My recommendation is doing those instead, genuinely. I don't feel like it's a major enough issue (at least for me, who has a good player-base that follows rules properly) to entirely prevent you from doing ANYTHING to the pathfinder.

I also believe this will cause a LOT more issues than it solves, which is my main, most blatant, reason for saying no to Pathfinder changes. Keep the ATS change, ensure it still sells.

And, for a stopgap, you're affecting a lot of genuinely good players who just like to decorate the shuttle just for fun, who go back to station frequently, who just want to make salvage more interesting.

I agree on April with this one, making the Pathfinder a protected grid is not the way to go, at all.

just add an unremovable bomb implant to them that explodes if they dont bring enough mats back to the station every so often :trollface:
