Per https://aspe.hhs.gov/topics/poverty-economic-mobility/poverty-guidelines

Worth noting here that although there is now an official API for the federal poverty level, it doesn't fully replace the functionality of this package.

  • Allows calculating only up to 8 household members
  • Requires specifying a year (but also has benefit of historical records)
  • Requires logic to send only one of 3 states: US, HI, AK

We could consider adjusting this code so it is a front-end to the official API, but given how simple this is, that seems like an unnecessary dependency to add. Installing this package allows the FPL to be stated without requiring an external web query, and a once a year update cycle seems like an acceptable burden.
