About the pull request

  • Changes Officer armor to actually conform to each map, fitting the color palette.
  • Adds a padless version of the armor for a bit more variation for players.
  • Removes the old "fancy" SG armor the CO used to use before their armor was reworked with New CO armor, vendor additions #8014
  • Changes the officer helmets to be an M12 variation, slight buff I guess.
  • Incorporated these changes into command vendors.
  • Changes the CMP armor to abide by map palette as well.
  • Switches around certain sprites that didn't belong. (why are green service jackets considered "desert")

Yes, the sprites aren't outstanding, but I don't feel they need to be, given the original. If anyone is particularly interested in respriting, feel free to reach out.

Explain why it's good for the game

Sticking out like a sore-thumb is just asking for trouble when playing as a USCM officer in the field, with the addition of the fancy new CO armor, a precedent has been set that we're no longer confined to being sort of beige. Blending into your environment is important, that's sort of why camo exists.

The helmet change is to provide slightly more differentiation between an officer and a normal rifleman.

The new officer armor in this PR has absolutely no distinction from normal M3 pattern besides that silver stripe that blends in completely with certain camo - overall it doesn't look good. I'd recommend that if you want to make the officer armor camo conforming it needs a unique sprite (like the route the CO armor took). I get that might be difficult but it's either that, keep the existing sprite, or axe officer armor altogether and just give officers straight up regular M3 armor.
