From here:

Another comment regarding the date added: When and why did webpages start to display the "... ago" information instead of a date? I mean, there's a calendar symbol right there, so why not use an actual date format? Also, this seems to lead to misinterpretations unless 2010 is 15 years ago:

That particular video is from 2010-01-22, so it's 14 years and 9.5 months ago, which gets rounded up to 15.

But re main point: for one, you can hover over the "15 years ago" to see the exact date. But secondly, I get your point, I am also sometimes annoyed by these relative dates. They can be handy as well though, especially when you have lots of "somewhat recent" videos. We can certainly change this though, for example everything that's longer than 6 months ago is shown as explicit date? 🤔

So yes... what's everyone's preference here?

I think we shouldn't always show absolute dates: If it's less than a day ago, we would need to show date and time, which means lots of numbers. I think "X hours ago" is way better. Even if the difference is a few days, I think I prefer "X days ago". Otherwise I have to remember the date of today. Beyond that I could be convinced that the absolute date is better. Once the difference is larger than a few years, I am fairly sure the date is more useful than the relative time.

I have nothig against the acutal solution ("x hours ago" or "x days ago" with specific date showing up when hovering over) and would suggest to leave it as it is and to invest our time elsewhere.

invest our time elsewhere.

Implementation-wise this change is trivial, we just have to decide the threshold. But sure, we still invest time in discussing this.

+1 for not adding more strain to the plans we have towards February. Off to the backlog!

PS: @sc-lmu, I didn't wait for you here because there's already a majority to ignore this for the time being. Feel free to chime in anyway.
