This pull request adds gcc-15 build to CI workflow, temporarily (I hope) comments out builds that no longer work, and switches the CI workflow to use actions/checkout@v4.

Well, it took me a few tries, but I'm amazed to discover the gcc-15 build on Ubuntu 25.04 works!

I also added a gcc-14 build on Alpine 3.21 while I was at it.

This PR addresses issue #418 and partially addresses issue #417.

Since there are no code changes, I'm just going to merge this.
