geohackweek 2016 Wiki

Quick Info

  • Geohackweek will take place Mon-Fri, Nov 14-18 in the eScience Institute's Data Science Studio, located on the 6th floor of the Physics/Astronomy Tower at the University of Washington.
  • Doors open at 8:15 am each morning (Monday-Friday). Breakfast and coffee will be provided until 9 am and we will start the morning sessions at 9:00 am sharp.
  • due to space limitations, only registered geohack participants will be allowed to attend the tutorials and open working sessions. The Google Earth engine introductory lecture is open to the public.
  • participants are expected to attend all scheduled geohack activities. Contact an organizer if any circumstances prevent you from attending.

Food

  • Breakfast and lunch is provided for all days. Coffee and snacks will be available throughout each day.
  • Dinner and drinks will be provided on Monday. There will be a reception on Wednesday evening with drinks provided. Participants are expected to take care of their own dinners Tuesday through Friday.
  • If you plan to drink alcohol at our catered events, please be sure to bring ID as the bartenders are required to check.
  • contact an organizer if you have dietary restrictions and we can provide additional information.

Internet access and communication

  • For information on wireless access, you can either use Eduroam, if it's available to you, or we'll give you guest access to the UW network on the first day.

Pre-event preparation:

  • Please review our [Code of Conduct](Code of Conduct).
  • Please arrive with your laptop ready for tutorial and project work, following our instructions here. Contact us on Slack (#preliminary_setup) if you have any difficulties. Checklist:
    • Have you installed and successfully tested Docker? If you are not using Docker, do you have a working local version of Python installed (using conda?).
    • Did you sign up for a Google Earth Engine account?
    • Did you request a SageMathCloud account?
    • Do you have a GitHub account?
  • If you haven't done so already, please add your name to the Participants List page (send information to @lsetiawan on slack)
  • review the Project Guidelines and begin communicating with organizers and other participants about possible project ideas
