Viewing a Bookmark

Bookmarks can be viewed in several different ways. From the main screen choosing "My Bookmarks", "Unread Bookmarks", "Recent Bookmarks", or "Network Bookmarks" presents a list of bookmarks that when clicked, opens the bookmark in the browser (by default).

Long pressing on the bookmark opens a context menu that allows you to view details about the bookmark, including its tags, notes, and description.

The default action taken on clicking a bookmark can be changed in the settings menu.

Adding a Bookmark

There are several ways to add a bookmark to your Pinboard account through PinDroid. The most common is by sharing a page from the browser. There are two entries in the share menu for Pinboard, one that opens the app and allows you to customize the title, notes, and tags before you save it, and one that saves it with the defaults and marks it as "to read", without opening the app.

When viewing a bookmark saved by a contact or in the recent list, long pressing the bookmark list item and choosing "Add" will allow you to save the bookmark to your own list. This can also be done from within the bookmark details screen by pressing menu and selecting "Add".

The description is automatically populated by the web page's title.

Editing a Bookmark

Bookmarks can be edited by long pressing a bookmark in the list view and choosing "Edit", or by pressing Menu and choosing "Edit" while viewing a bookmark's details. Trying to add a bookmark for a url that is already in your bookmarks will also count as an edit, since Pinboard uses the url as the primary identifier for bookmarks.

Deleting a Bookmark

Bookmarks can be deleted by long pressing a bookmark in the list view and choosing "Delete", or by pressing Menu and choosing "Delete" while viewing a bookmark's details.

Searching

Both your bookmarks and tags can be searched in PinDroid from their respective list views, or from the main screen. The search dialog is opened by either pressing Menu and choosing "Search" or by pressing the hardware Search key. Bookmarks and tags can also be searched from the Android's global search, though it must first be enabled by going to the main phone settings, then Search settings, then checking PinDroid in the Searchable items menu.

How Syncing Works

Syncing is handled by the Android OS and is managed through the Accounts & Sync settings screen in the main phone settings. Periodically, your bookmarks are synced to the phone and stored locally. Any changes to bookmarks you make on your phone trigger an upload-only sync immediately; if that fails, the app will to try to upload your local changes the next time a sync happens. Unsynced bookmarks are marked with a red bar next to their title in the list view.
