Project Apps

leafstorm edited this page Jul 3, 2012 · 1 revision

In order to be cool and innovative, the LUG Web site will have several apps. Here are the ones I have planned:

LUG Blog

This will be a simple, fairly standard blog. It will be displayed on the front page, and it will be used for official LUG news.

LUG People

This will allow LUG members to create profiles. This will include information such as:

  • Username
  • IRL Name
  • Role (Student, Employee, Faculty, Alumnus, or Community Member)
  • Title (only for officers and committee chairs)
  • Links (homepage, GitHub, LinkedIn...)
  • Biography
  • Interests

Creating a profile allows you to post in the forum/on the blog (if we grant you blogging access), and have feeds show up in your name on the Planet. (Administrators will check accounts to be sure that it's not a spambot.)

Obviously, personal URLs will be in the format http://lug.ncsu.edu/~username/.

LUG Planet

This will aggregate feeds from all of the LUG members' personal and/or project blogs. (Probably mostly Barry's.) LUG members can have multiple feeds attached to their name.

LUG IRC Log

This will display a live IRC log, as provided by a logging bot. We will need to implement humorous censorship in order to not get the University angry with us.

LUG Forum

This will be something halfway between Reddit and a traditional forum. People can submit links and general topics, and then discuss them. It will have an IRC bot that posts new things in the IRC channel. It will probably not have separate boards, but there will be tags.
