registry exclusively supports nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and initiatives.
Our verification process is simple and straightforward. We rely on your organization’s existing online presence for quick approval and evidence-based verification.
Once your subdomain is approved, you’ll enjoy the right to use the subdomain for life, with no registration or renewal fees.
Our domain is part of the Mozilla Public Suffix List (PSL), which enhances security by ensuring subdomains are treated independently by browsers, much like .co.uk

To be eligible for a ngo.us subdomain, applicants must be established nonprofit organizations, projects, or initiatives with a long-term focus and structured operations. While formal incorporation or registration with a government body is not required, organizations must demonstrate that they are organized in a meaningful and sustainable way. This includes having defined goals, a clear mission, and ongoing activities that align with nonprofit principles. Please note that personal projects, temporary or short-term initiatives, seasonal efforts, sandbox environments, testing projects, or small-scale labs do not qualify for a ngo.us subdomain. We seek to support organizations that show lasting commitment and measurable impact in their respective fields.
Applicants must maintain a visible, publicly accessible online presence that accurately reflects their organization’s work and mission. This can include a website, social media profile, or other online platforms that provide comprehensive and up-to-date information about the organization’s history, activities, and objectives. For social media profiles, the account must have at least 20 followers and a minimum of 20 posts, demonstrating ongoing engagement with the public. The account should not be brand new or created solely for the purpose of applying for a ngo.us subdomain. Similarly, if you submit a website or other type of online presence, it must be verifiable, trustworthy, and demonstrate the organization's sustained activities, not just created to meet the application criteria. Your online presence is an important factor in establishing your organization’s legitimacy and credibility. It should clearly demonstrate your long-term commitment to your mission and ongoing public engagement.
All applicants must comply with the legal and ethical standards outlined in our Terms of Service. Organizations must operate within legal frameworks, adhere to nonprofit governance practices, and demonstrate good faith in their activities. This includes conducting your operations ethically, promoting positive social, environmental, or humanitarian causes, and using the ngo.us subdomain in a manner that aligns with these values. Your application should reflect your intent to act lawfully and contribute to the common good.

- Sign the Agreement: Follow the PR template to sign the agreement.
Once your pull request is submitted, make sure all automatic checks pass. PRs with failing checks will be ignored. Monitor the PR in case there are any requests for changes, such as corrections to syntax errors in your zone file.
After the PR is reviewed and merged, please allow up to 48 hours for the changes to propagate.

domain, follow the steps below:

The ongoing trust and integrity of the .ngo.us
registry depend on the accuracy and activity of its entries. By submitting a pull request to register a domain, the registrant agrees to the following obligations:
