_Building up the node community through mentoring_

![mentors and mentees](http://media.giphy.com/media/AyAxcQ0DsAJzi/giphy.gif)

##### Why would I want a mentor?

Are you just learning node, or looking to get started? Have you been struggling with something node-related for a while and not sure where to go next? Mentors can help!
Expand All @@ -14,18 +16,16 @@ The idea is to provide more personal, specific support and hopefully develop hea

##### OK so what do I do?

Three options:

1. File an issue [here on the GitHub issue queue](https://github.com/node-forward/mentors/issues) and explain a problem you're having, some questions you have, etc. Make sure you note things like the language you speak, your location, or anything else you think matters to the mentor who will ultimately respond and begin to work with you.
[Fill out our short mentorship form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12OC7RgjoBvypP1HA2yBVgG31OdCSRbW4sXHMaZec0Jo/viewform) so we can match you up with a mentor.

2. Ask a question on [our Gitter channel](https://gitter.im/node-forward/mentors) --a chat room that uses your GitHub login as your user account. We'll be watching that channel and responding there, hoping to pair up as we find good matches.

3. `<less public method tbd>` coming soon...
_Have a more general question about mentoring? You can always ask a question on [our Gitter channel](https://gitter.im/node-forward/mentors) or file an issue [on the GitHub issue queue](https://github.com/node-forward/mentors/issues)_

Same for this section as well, it will need to be multi-step. Should we require form-submission for everyone so we have the mentor/mentee expectations set?

  1. Go to form and sign-up
  2. Submit PR to readme listing as mentor
  3. A little patience and you'll receive your match! Or at least an email that we're working on it/don't have anyone currently needing a mentor but we'll contact when the match seems right.

I think this could be a good method of approach. Maybe have the form submit the github issue? We'd need a back-end for that unless someone knows how to do that using front-end code.

We're keeping this as simple as possible for now. The initial iteration will be a Google form with the project managers matching.

If you'd like to file a separate issue proposing this workflow, that'd be awesome. But we'd also need help building that :)

That's fair. I'd be willing to chip in to assist with further iterations :)

Sounds awesome! I'm notorious for going far too big with scope at the start. Taking others' advice on not doing that is helping me quite a bit!

We'd like mentors to fill out [the same form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12OC7RgjoBvypP1HA2yBVgG31OdCSRbW4sXHMaZec0Jo/viewform) and then submit a pull request to this repo adding your name and info to this README. We're still working out how to manage and display that list, so stay tuned for more details. (See: https://github/node-forward/issues/49)

*You can always watch this repo and [the gitter channel](https://gitter.im/node-forward/mentors) for updates and to follow along with the overall mentoring conversation.

I think I'd like to move the GIF back up to the top. It's friendly. That's a small nit :D
