Cerne is a color font based on the scribal hand of Cambridge University Library MS. Ll. 1. 10, “The Book of Cerne,” a ninth-century prayerbook written in pointed insular minuscule. The font’s colors are based on those used to highlight text in the manuscript (with thanks to Michelle P. Brown, The Book of Cerne (1996)). The colors and other features of the font can be manipulated using OpenType features, which are listed in the guide included in the release package. To use this font effectively, basic OpenType capabilities should be enabled (as they are by default in all major applications except for Microsoft Word): ccmp, calt, liga, kern.
