hi @flpm @RobPasMue i wonder if we can work on this being merged as a priority too? it's been open for some time! i don't want to rush anyone. But maybe we can just merge #329 first and rebase and update this pr as needed since it hasn't been reviewed yet? what do you think? i'm just trying to do an end of year clean up and these pr's are from july!! many thanks!

NOTE: we could also do this in January if folks want to take time off, but if anything could be merged this week, such as 329, maybe we should consider doing so.

We can merge #329. It should not be a problem.

I am planning to do a cleanup and adjust for changes in the original after this last PR from @RobPasMue gets merged, so I can take care of the changes introduced by #329 at that time.
