Lab assignment for the application of an MFD with simulated traffic data of a 2 hour period

This was an assignment for the Intro to Traffic Flow Modeling and Intelligent Transport Systems course provided by EPFL on edX.

It analyzes a given 2 hour traffic simulation data using an MFD model.

Full analysis can be found on 'Lab_example.pdf'.

Overall, we can see that traffic occupancy is increasing overtime. However, the bottom right area of the map (region 2) stays low on occupancy.

Region 4 shows highest capacity and region 2 shows lowest capacity with low occupancy throughout.

The time series suggests that a large influx of vehicles happened at around 16 min.

50% of the links were chosen based on certain methods and scaled the MFD to compare with the original.

The comparison for each method was done by the Frechet Distance.

All regions show similar spacial distributions over time except for perhaps region 2, where most lanes stay on low occupancy.
