Project Zelbinion Specifications Update
This document outlines several modifications to the defensive prototype codenamed Zelbinion, post Galactica-class field testing.
While the prototype has proven itself effective in limited skirmishes, reviewing field testing, including C0455's operations, has outlined some particular vulnerabilities. Although certain shortcomings are a result of the general instability of our particle projection aparatus as outlined in the previous report, R&D has made several partial successes as outlined below.
Core system
A particular weakness of Prototype-1 was the prolonged time to buildup particle charge before being able to generate a field with sufficient protective strength, leading to severe complications in Syndicate ambushes. Revisions in Prototype-2's projection system and containment apparatus have led to significantly improved charge parameters in this regard. Unfortunately, overtaxing the Projection system this way has led to the system requiring a full realignment cycle after each system shutdown as to prevent uncontrolled particle release.
During Mark-II projector modifications, partial success was also achieved in generating varied density fields. The modified projectors are capable of somewhat thinner field projection, which should be exceptionally more capable of high powered kinetics deflection. Albeit concerns currently persist about potential reduced effectiveness when impacted with energy weapons. Potentially a vector for further disguising Zelbinion? Testing will continue on this subject. Regardless, statistics also suggested higher field coherence when the particle hardening system ceased to work. Potential uses for this behavior are still being aggregated.
As a side effect during particle field density testing, a particular charge frequency caused by misaligned emitter polarity achieved redirection factors almost equal to a magnetic field generator due to particle charge interfering with target momentum. As such, this frequency has been the standard particle charge of models henceforth.
The Systech division likewise has been hard at work, resolving a core scheduling error that resulted in almost halved performance in some situations. In addition, several interface issues were eradicated by them, and the responsiveness was increased by almost 75%. This should lead to severe improvements in operator awareness.
Relay system
No solutions have been found as of yet for requiring the installation of volatile particle relay systems, as the main projector still lacks the power to project a stable field for an entire Battleship-class vessel.
As such, due to the critical importance of relay integrity, instead the casing of the Relay model II has been reinforced with plasteel instead of the regular alloy, which should make them less prone to total failure, or should at least preserve enough of the internals to permit salvaging. The heat sinks were also replaced to focus on improved pressure tolerance, although this was taxing on the total volume of coolant required.
A vector of spontanious overloads was also pinpointed during design of version II. Relay sub-node one and two would sometimes cause field interference when charged for prolonged periods of time. Shielding inbetween the sub-nodes of each relay should reduce this interference to tolerable levels.
Attendum
During salvage of a Galactica-class vessel where the "Scorched Earth" protocol was successfully triggered, a salvage crew stumbled upon a Zelbinion system which did not suffer sufficient damage during detonation. This required immediate liquidation of the entire team, including overseeing personnel, and led to significant costs in alleviating fallout. The "Scorched Earth" system has since been improved, leading to a 99.99997% predicted success rate in evidence removal. Further incidents must be prevented at all costs.
