The test server has official group testing sessions. This is a really good way to get some tips from those that have done this for awhile now and be able to beta test unreleased content.
- Monday 7:30 PM ET
- Wednesday 6:00 PM ET
- Saturday 12:00 PM ET (noon)
What does a normal group testing session look like?
There are no normal testing sessions! They are all unique. However there is a normal common pattern.
- The leader of the group event will announce in general what new work is going to be tested in advance of the date.
- This gives testers plenty of time to look up era videos, read wikis, write notes about mechanics, et. cetera.
- We'll cover previously tested content which had failed our testing (that has been updated with new code since then.)
- We'll cover the new content. Specific instructions on what to test will come in the session. This could be everyone fighting it as an alliance, or it could mean splitting up and divvying tasks. It just depends on what is being tested.
How can I prepare myself?
- We test edge cases extensively and make sure that the behavior is in-line with expected mechanics. It's very important to familiarize yourself on the zone or fight prior to actually testing it*. This way you have a proper idea of what to look for--otherwise you're only going to be able to find things that are overly broken or incorrect.
- During testing sessions; have the notes you took about the subject, Discord, and resources such as wiki open on the side when testing. This way you can check out behaviors that you and other people have specifically pointed out.
- Pay attention to damage taken and received in era videos, along with the gear and job that they are. Pay attention to job abilities and buffs that are in use. Sometimes this is hard to pay attention to so make sure that you view a few videos. If you're unsure what buffs and gear are being used, ask others in the test group.
- If something doesn't line up with the expectations you have in your notes, or the wiki. Point it out to the group!
