Print the pieces of the mold

Print using whatever 3D printing filament you have available to you. The prints are pretty big and take some time, so I recommend a lower quality setting. I use the following settings in Cura on an Ultimaker S5 using PLA+ it takes about 24 hours to print:

  • No Supports
  • No Raft
  • 0.3 mm layer height
  • 20% infill (triangles)
  • 1.3 mm wall thickness
  • 70 mm/s print speed

We'll ask you some questions before you download. Please fill out the questionnaire and we will redirect you to the files.

Assemble mold

Mold assembly visual. The two base pieces form a cup like shape and the base of the mold. The two other pieces fit together to press into the cup-like base. If needed, the little pins fit inside the 2nd 2 pieces to hold them together.

  1. Fit the left and right base pieces together to form a cup.
There are some pins to help with alignment, and slots for the zip-ties/string. Clamps can be used instead if you have them.

  2. Push the core and top pieces together.

    • The triangular pieces fit together on the thicker part of the top piece (leave the hollowed out area on top to help separate the mold later)
    • The two pieces should form a tight enough fit to stay together on their own, but if there is too much slop, you can use the pins to hold them together.
You will be pouring the silicone into the cup, then pressing the other 2 pieces into the cup. They should fit snuggly in place.
  3. Apply the petroleum jelly or mold release to the inside of the mold. You just need a thin layer over all of the internal pieces (except for the core, but it doesn't hurt to apply to the core as well).
This is to help disassemble the mold after pouring the silicone. It makes the pieces and silicone slide apart more easily. You can also use the petroleum jelly to seal any cracks in your mold.
