Localization Standards

JudgeAlfred edited this page Dec 7, 2018 · 1 revision

Before releasing any additional content into the Beta/Live versions, we must ensure that our work looks finished and is free of the more basic but worrisome errors.

All focuses, ideas, national spirits and other parts of the additional content must have files for their localization encoded once before they are released to the public.

As Vanilla HoI4 uses American English (Color instead of Colour, Armor instead of Armour) we will continue this as the standard.

If the content creator/modder/individual in question is not comfortable or unwilling to do all of the localization themselves, they must reach out to the Team and follow these steps:

1) Team members must be notified before content is pushed from a branch into the main mod.

2) The encoding routes for the localization must be present for all sections which do not contain them. i.e: If your focus is austria_rules and its named has been localized ingame as "Austria Rules", but the description is not, you must include the austria_rules_desc pathing within the localization file. Within the input for the localization you must also give a very brief sentence about what the focus/idea/etc. does as well as it's reward.

This allows whomever is going to go in after you to accurately understand what you are trying to convey with this piece of content, and give it a correct localization accordingly.

3) If you are not a native English speaker, or are simply not comfortable with your syntax in regards to writing please reach out to the Dev Team to proofread and edit your work. There is no shame in doing so, and we are glad to help make sure what you want to convey in writing is done in the best way possible.
