Interview Summary

1. Difficulties finding people to practice a sport
  • Interview 1 (Juan Andrés Romero):

  • Interview 1.1 (Javier David Peniche):

Context: The interview was given informally ,in person and in spanish. Actors: Javier being the interviewer, and Oscar being the interviewed.

    Javier: Hello, how are you?

    Oscar: Hello, well and you?

Javier: Well, so you think if we start?

    Oscar: Okay

Javier: Could you briefly tell who you are and what you do?

Oscar: My name is Oscar, I am a final semester Anthropology student at the Universidad de los Andes and I am 22 years old.

Javier: What hobbies do you have? What do you usually do in the free spaces you have at the U besides studying?

Oscar: It depends on the day. Sometimes I go up to the "caneca" to train in the gym. Other days we set aside the video game console to play all day. On other occasions I go to play on the court with other people from the u.

Javier: What kind of problems have you encountered when you go to the court to play? Oscar: It's quite variable. The coordination is done by a WhatsApp group, and to know if the boys are coordinating a game sometimes you must read more than 100 messages, and that becomes tiring. It has also happened that suddenly we go to the court because in theory someone has it reserved and it turns out that there are already other people playing, so we waste time going there. It also happens that in the WhatsApp group we agreed that we go for example 10 people, and 5 arrive, and we cannot take advantage of all the space, and the teams are sometimes incomplete. Sometimes the person who is going to carry the ball takes a long time to arrive or does not arrive.

Javier: And that problem happens to everyone or only to those who are in that WhatsApp group?

Oscar: I'd think it happens to everyone. Coordinating by a WhatsApp group has that kind of thing.

Javier: And on a scale of 0 to 10, where 10 is the maximum severity, how do you rate those problems?

Oscar: I would put it at 5. Not that it always happens, but when it happens it is quite annoying.

Javier: Do you know of any solution for this type of problem? Have you tried them?

Oscar: not really, all the coordination to go play on the court of the sports center is done by the WhatsApp group. It's not like you can actually do something to prevent people from going to play.

Javier: And what do you think is the best way to solve these problems?

Oscar: I would think of a kind of forum or application, where people could open the spaces, how many people are looking to play and how long. Then that sent him as a kind of notification, and one could register to be able to play the game. That would be like a way to manage the matches, which are done by WhatsApp but suddenly in a more organized way. But the thing about people not getting to play if I don't see a clear solution to that. You know what, something interesting would be to appoint someone as a referee for when there are fouls, he decides if it was a foul or not, it would be a way to avoid friction during matches

Javier: Okay Oscar, thank you very much for your time, and your answers.

    Oscar: Its ok.

Interview by Juan Andrés Romero

Situation What? How? Why? Who?
1. People waiting for others in La Caneca The students are sitting/ hanging around different sport areas. They look to be waiting for someone or some group. They look to be bored because of the wait. Some are talking between each other in the lounge areas. They might not have enough people to play the sport. Some groups are talking between each other in order to play something. Groups of student teenagers or young adults in sweatsuits/sport clothing. Some look bored, some engage in conversation with others.
2. People gathering with other groups in La Caneca Some people seem to be asking others or calling more people in order to play a sport. They look eager but rather annoyed since not a lot of people have accepted their proposal. Others are patiently asking each other trying to convince them to join. They might not have enough people or are missing one or two more players. Young students in sweatsuits/sport clothing. There are some teachers asking others too.
3. Individual people looking for teams to join The students are looking for groups at La Caneca in order to join a team and play some sports. They seem bored because they aren't able to find a proper team in order to play a team sport such as football or basketball. It happens because there are some players that couldn't bring a team to play or they haven't been able to successfully join a current group. Young student adults wearing sport clothing, there is equal proportion of male and female players in this situation.
4. Individuals discouraged to play team sports Students are leaving the sports center because they weren't able to find a team or someone to play with. Instead they chose to either leave or exercise on their own They look discouraged because they weren't able to find a group to work with, when wanting to play team sports. This happens when the individuals weren't able to get in a group be it because they were full or because no one was playing the same sport they wanted at that specific time. Young student adults wearing sport clothing, there is a bigger proportion of male students compared to female players in this situation.

  1. The person who has to carry the ball is late or does not arrive
Waiting for the person with the ball to arrive

All those who went to the field to play
  1. Not all the players who say they were going to arrive
Wait a short time until enough people arrive to play
They are sitting in the stands waiting or chatting among those who are going to play.
Because sometimes people have unforeseen events and cannot attend to play
The players who are already on the field.

Wait for enough people to arrive before you can start playing
If the person who has to carry the ball has already arrived then they start playing a rondo or passing the ball. Otherwise, they are left waiting in the stands.
Because in this case the field would be too big for such a small group of players
The players who are already on the field.

Brainstorming

This brainstorming session was derived from the interview insights and journey maps. We decided to take ideas from what the interviewees told us and about what they felt was needed. Furthermore, after we discussed which were the most interesting problems, we chose to work in the first problem titled "Difficulties finding people to practice a sport". The brainstorming was done in a Miro whiteboard.

Prototype

Penpot viewer link

The prototype of the application has a user login/registration feature as its first view. The next view is the profile view, which displays the user's data such as favorite sport, points earned from participating in application events, and university ranking position.

The home view is then introduced, where users can view the available sports on the university campus. Additional features of the application, such as the exercise guides, are accessible from the bottom of this view. By clicking on a sport, the user is taken to the next view - the events. The events are the activities available on campus, such as soccer. The application displays three events - two live and one upcoming - each with a location and available spots, allowing the user to invite friends to join.

Finally, the exercise guide view, one of the extra features of the application, offers recommendations on how to perform exercises correctly.
